Job Description

The incumbent maintains the facilities of the SeaHorse Key Marine Laboratory in Cedar Key, Florida

This position is responsible for the maintenance & repair of all marine vessels, equipment and facilities.

Operate and maintain Outboard and Inboards.

Paint boat exteriors and interiors, and building cabinetry, shelving and other fixtures as needed.

Maintain safety equipment, all pumps, transmission, steering, deck gear, dredging equipment, etc.

Do minor mechanical work on a variety of motors when ever needed. Electrical work including minor wiring and installation of switch panels and switches, implements such as electrical motors, and electronic apparatus on marine vessels and minor repairs to electrical generating equipment, motors starters, chargers, sonar, radar, Loran, radar and other marine electronic devices. Mix Fuel.

Supervise groups when Marine Supervisor is not present; Scientic and educational visitors in boat operations, dredging, collection of specimens and other water work, group of students day or night.

Install and maintain water lines (main and service, salt and fresh) and plumbed utilities including ice machines, hot water heaters.

Install and maintain septic tank drain fields. Replace pumps and well points when needed.

Install and maintain natural gas lines and heaters.

Make repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment, paint, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, concrete, heating and air conditioning, kitchen appliances, ice machine, roof repairs, etc. when ever necessary.

Serve as Groundskeeper which includes tree-trimming, planting plants and grass.

Maintain generators including service P.M.'s wiring, repair motors, install or move when needed.

Maintain fuel supply (propane) and gasoline.

Build and maintain stationary and floating docks. Also maintain channel markers.

Maintain power tools, lawn movers, weed eaters, power saws, drills, welders, torches, sanders, grinders, etc.
