Job Description

This position works directly under the supervision of the designated Zoology Computer Coordinator, and is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and (when deemed necessary) upgrading of the Zoology computer hardware systems and network in Bartram and Carr Halls.

Provide oversight of network rewiring, maintenance, and performance of Bartram and Carr Halls as well as maintenance of a 20 seat Computer Teaching Facility.

Study network performance and proposes improvements. 

Responsible for immediate troubleshooting on computer hardware and software, initiating routine diagnostics to isolate causes of system failures, making minor and simple repairs or adjustments, and determining when major repairs are necessary or diagnoses of problems need to be made by an outside agency-computer repair facility, distributor, or designated warranty service center.

The individual will work under the supervision of the Computer Coordinator in the capacity of computer trainer for faculty, staff and graduate students. May be called upon to customize systems applications for the Zoology computer network, and to draft user specifications to enhance existing programs for departmental users. Must be familiar with HTML. 

Design and develop documents using prepackaged software and multi-user computer data bases. Develop user guides and procedure manuals for various departmental applications or for training purposes. Conduct individual and group training sessions and workshops. 

Researches, makes recommendations, and implements computer hardware options and software applications for the department, and serves as the departmental liaison with vendors, working with the Zoology Fiscal Office. Also serves as CLAS computer contact for the department.

Oversee web and email server for Zoology, Botany, and Biological Sciences.

Supervise part-time computer help.
