Job Description

Paints, stains, applies protective coating to lab spaces, lab furniture, and other equipment and facilities.

Does glass cutting and design work with plastics.

Does moderate amounts of plastering and cement work.

Performs a variety of carpentry construction and repair such as small research sheds, pole barns, and large outdoor cages; new walls, windows, flooring, fences, doors, boardwalks, cabinets, railings; installation of replacement items to maintain or remodel laboratories and offices belonging to the Department of Zoology and the Division of Biological Sciences.

Must work with and assist faculty and graduate students in the design and planning as well as construction of specialized instructional and research equipment requiring skilled wood, metal, and plastic work which shall be done by this employee.

Responsible for ordering wood, metal, hardware, tools, and electrical and plumbing items needed for the work projects described above.

Performs various types of electrical and mechanical installation of motors, time clocks, lighting fixtures, heating elements, thermostats, etc. Repairs pumps, water baths, ovens, air conditioners and other related research equipment.

Responsible for operation, maintenance and repair of equipment in Dept Maintenance Shop and related mechanical equipment that may be needed for particular jobs and borrowed from Physical Plant. Cleans and replaces worn out parts on a variety of equipment.

Maintenance and repair of boat and trtailer, salt water trailer, and other departmental vehicles.

Responsible for occasional installation repairs and adjustments to plumbing.
